Edgefield is a planned community of roughly 325 acres on the east edge of town. It is still being built out, which means new streets, new homes and a school and shopping centre that are already open.
George Freeman School (K–9, Golden Hills School Division) was completed in 2018 for about 500 students and has its own field house. For a lot of Edgefield families it is a walk, not a drive.
Edgefield Place, at Highway 1 and George Freeman Trail, has a Calgary Co-op with grocery, pharmacy and a gas bar, plus Tim Hortons, Mark’s, Pet Valu and more.
The community sits right off the Trans-Canada. Calgary’s east side is roughly half an hour away with no city driving until you reach it.
Pathways, green space and storm ponds run through the neighbourhood, and many lots on the east side look out over open prairie.

George Freeman School (K–9) is inside Edgefield. Older students go on to Strathmore High School, and Holy Cross Collegiate (7–12) serves Catholic families. Attendance areas are set by the school divisions and can change — confirm the boundary for a specific address.
The Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre has two gymnasiums, an indoor walking track and indoor turf. The Family Centre Arena runs Olympic and NHL-size ice, and the Centennial Aquatic Centre has a six-lane 25 m pool.
Edgefield Place covers the everyday — groceries, pharmacy, gas and coffee. Sobeys, the Ranch Market centre and the rest of Strathmore’s shops and restaurants are a few minutes west.
Highway 1 is at the edge of the community. Strathmore has local transit but no commuter service to Calgary, so most households here drive. More on the commute in Moving to Strathmore.
